Putting gender equality at the heart of education in emergencies

The transformative power of education, especially in humanitarian contexts, is well established. Yet at current rates of progress, it is estimated that by 2030 girls growing up in crises will on average receive just 8.5 years of education in their lifetime. At a time of record levels of displacement, protracted crisis and climate emergency, never has the need been greater to dismantle the gendered barriers to education in conflict-affected contexts. The INEE Guidance Note on Gender provides practical tools to do just that.

INEE Guidance Note on Gender

Produced in partnership with the Inter-agency Network on Education in Emergencies (INEE), the Guidance Note on Gender has been developed for policymakers, practitioners and everyone involved in education as part of emergency preparedness, response or recovery to ensure that programming is gender-responsive. Reflecting the changing nature of crises, the Guidance Note features a range of new strategies, tools and approaches for putting gender equality at the heart of education in crisis-affected contexts.
