The Transform Education Newsletter

December 2021

23 Dec 2021

Hey Education Transformers and allies,

We are beyond grateful for you. 2021 has been a super challenging year but we are privileged to have navigated through it with you. We have achieved so much together and it has also been magical to see everything you have achieved and how you have shown up for your communities. Thank you for inspiring us and for your continued support of Transform Education. We could not have made it without you.

To our Education Transformers, allies and friends, thank you for supporting us and believing in us. You are amazing! Your work is everything this world needs and we stand in solidarity with you even though we are oceans apart.

As we reflect and give thanks for 2021, let’s walk down memory lane together.

This year we strengthened our governance structure. We welcomed a guiding group which guided Transform Education's direction for the year. We developed hosting guidelines with our phenomenal hosts: UNGEI.

We launched two working collectives: “Ending School Related Gender Based Violence” chaired by Las Ninas Lideran and Chalk Back, as well as “Education for Gender Equality and Climate Justice” chaired by Empodera Clima and Rise Up Movement. The collectives created key messages, participated in advocacy moments and partnerships.

TE education shifts powerEducation Transformers influenced key moments including the Generation Equality Forum (we can’t forget Yande getting World Leaders to stand up for girls education!), the Global Education Summit, and the United Nations’ General Assembly. We had the privilege of collaborating with allies such as UNESCO, UNICEF, Plan International, the Office of the Secretary General Envoy on Youth, Right to Play, UN Women and the Global Partnership for Education. Most importantly, we worked closely with our hosts, UNGEI, and are grateful for their ongoing funding, support and solidarity.

SolidariTEa coverThe first two editions of our Zine, SolidariTEa, were launched! Huge shout out to Education Transformer, Ipsita, for incubating this!

We partnered with Plan International for our very first funded partnership! Together we launched “Education Shifts Power”, a campaign that targeted the G7, GPE replenishment and COP 26. You can read about the partnership here.

Education Transformers attended COP 26 and lobbied for gender transformative climate education! You can find the Feminist youth-led statement of recommendations here.

We had the HONOUR to contribute to the Gender Transformative Education Brief with Plan International, UNGEI and UNICEF.

We partnered on the 16 Days of Activism Campaign with the global Working Group to End SRGBV. We also co-published the Solidarity Circle Facilitator Guide.

We launched our Instagram account and created lots of feminist artwork!

We continued to use art as a Super Power to Transform Education!

Looking forward to 2022

Our mission will continue in 2022 and we look forward to doing this with you! Going into the new year, we welcome two new coordinators: Jona and Ashlee! With their leadership we will soar to new heights!

Education Transformers, please fill out this form to help guide us into the new year!

Wishing you rest & care for the end of the year.

In solidarity,

Yande and Shamah, Co-chairs of Transform Education
