To achieve gender equality in and through education, governments need to embed gender equality at the core of education sector planning. The Gender at the Centre Initiative (GCI) supports 8 countries in sub-Saharan Africa (Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Sierra Leone) to develop truly gender-responsive education systems, that help girls to break out of generations of low educational attainment and reach their full potential. Within the framework of the Gender at the Centre Initiative (GCI), UNGEI and Cambridge Education undertook an analysis to better understand how Ministries of Education across the 8 GCI countries mainstream gender equality in their education systems.  The study identified examples of good practice and opportunities to progress in achieving gender transformative education systems.

This live webinar was held on April 19 (10am New York/2pm Dakar) and brought together young activists, Ministries of Education and Civil Society representatives to reflect on the study results, and identify actions needed to effectively advance gender-responsive education planning.
