The attached lesson plans have been designed to be used as part of the Key Stage 4 Citizenship syllabus. They could also be adapted for use in Key Stage 3, Sixth Form General Studies or Geography.

They help to put a global dimension into the curriculum, following DfES recommendations:

At Key Stages 3 and 4: pupils develop their understanding of their role as global citizens and extend their knowledge to the wider world.

Their understanding of the roles such as poverty, social justice and sustainable development increases and they realise the importance of taking action to improve the world for future generations. They critically assess information available to them and challenge cases of discrimination and injustice.

The resources fulfil the following assessment criteria for Citizenship: K&U: 1a, 1d, 1jDSEC: 2a, 2b, 2c.

Teachers may wish to read the enclosed briefing paper for background information.
