Gender inequality has planted its roots deeply and strongly alongside Asian ways of living. Together with poverty and other social issues such as child marriage and child labour, the disparity becomes dominant, preventing millions of girls, particularly in South Asian countries, from having the opportunity to study and to lead a good life. Even worse, it risks harming their physical and emotional condition.

This study on gender inequality in Asia clearly portrays the reality and reasons why nearly 16 million Asian girls are not going to school. It is also an assessment on the level of gender sensitivity in Plan's education programmes in Asia and identifies modifications to improve them in the future.
