Winning people’s will for Girl Child Education” describes the process, outcomes and lessons learnt from a UNESCO project to educate girl children in two communities in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal.

“Win People’s Will” was an action-research project in 2004 and 2005 that concentrated on the access and retention in school of girls from Dalit (or untouchable) castes. Given the social and cultural complexities facing this deprived caste group, UNESCO’s activity focused on gaining “people’s will” for girls’ education. Parents and the community must be fully convinced of the importance of education and be motivated to send their daughters to school.
