Symposium: Education, Skills and Employment: Changing the status quo for women and girls


NEW YORK, 29 April 2019 - UNGEI, the Akilah Institute, Brookings Institution, International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), International Labor Organization (ILO), and UNICEF are next week co-hosting a special one day symposium. The theme: Education and employment: changing the status quo for women and girls around the world.

The event will focus on bridging parallel conversations on youth workforce readiness and education-to-work transitions for young women, with the goal of better preparing them to enter the workforce during and post education. 

Key objectives of the symposium include:

- Identifying opportunities to improve the quality of education in order to better prepare women and girls with the needed skills for the workforce of today and tomorrow

- Advancing efforts to bridge the demand and supply sides of workforce development and education initiatives to produce better outcomes for women, their families and communities

- Highlighting potential solutions around scaling school-to-work transition initiatives, including lessons learned in the girls’ education and youth workforce readiness spaces
