Education in the spotlight at Global Citizen and Global Partnership for Education event

Julia Gillard, GPE Board Chair and Former PM of Australia joins the Band Metric in Ottawa

Education will be in the spotlight as Julia Gillard, Board Chair of the Global Partnership for Education and the former Prime Minister of Australia, will be in Ottawa on Wednesday, February 8, 2017. International advocacy organization Global Citizen, in partnership with GPE, announce that Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw of Metric will perform an intimate acoustic set at a cocktail reception at the Fairmont Château Laurier in Ottawa.

Gillard will be in Ottawa during International Development Week and will speak with Members of Parliament at the event to encourage Canada’s on-going support for global education funding. Over 70 MPs are scheduled to attend.

With Canada in the midst of an international assistance review, Gillard's visit is a timely reminder that education is key to empowering women and girls and supporting children in countries considered fragile or affected by conflict to end poverty.
