Rallying to end school-related gender-based violence

To mark International Women’s Day and contribute to the 59th session of the Commission on the Status of Women dialogue, the EFA GMR team and UNGEI, with UNESCO, the Global Education First Initiative, UNICEF and Plan, will launch a policy brief on school-related gender-based violence (SRGBV) and host the side event: ‘Rallying to end school-related gender-based violence’. The policy brief and accompanying event will present an overview of existing evidence and knowledge gaps with regard to SRGBV. The policy brief and event will close with key recommendations for future action. The launch will help galvanize the international community to take a strong stand against SRGBV, including in on-going discussions on the post-2015 agenda.

The event will be structured as a panel discussion and will present the following:

a) Findings of the UNESCO-UNGEI-GMR policy brief on SRGBV;
b) In the context of the Beijing+20 review, a reflection on lessons and achievements in advancing girls’ education and gender equality, with a focus on learning in a safe and secure school environment.

The presentations will be complemented by structured reflections from a panel of key stakeholders, including technical experts, Member States, and youth and teacher representatives, with other important stakeholders adding their voices from the floor.

It is anticipated that the discussions will help contribute toward on-going discussions among Member States concerning the post-2015 goals and targets, as well as open consultations on the post-2015 indicator framework and EFA Framework for Action.
