Education Events in Washington will Address Learning for All and the Final Push to 2015
On 10 April, A World at School and Mr. Brown will organize a day-long symposium on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Spring Meetings to accelerate progress towards global education goals in the lead up to 2015. The "Countdown to 2015 Summit: Campaigning for Global Education Results and Accountability," will bring grassroots campaigners, policy and communication experts and youth activists together for a set of plenaries, working sessions and strategic briefings.
Policy sessions on girls’ education and child marriage, child labour, education in emergencies and quality of teaching and learning will address some of the biggest obstacles to access and learning for all children. Strategic briefings on media and messaging, grassroots mobilization and financing will discuss practical tools and strategies to rally a broad set of partners for the final push to 2015.
A World at School will launch at the Summit their Global Youth Ambassador Program, a cohort of 500 youth around the world who will be advocates for global education. Also launching at the Summit is The Education We Want: Advocacy Toolkit developed by Plan International, the Global Education First Initiative's Youth Advocacy Group and A World at School. It will be a practical guide for youth to plan and carry out education advocacy.
In the afternoon, the World Bank, the Global Partnership for Education and the Global Education First Initiative will co-sponsor the "Learning for All Symposium: Investing in a Brighter Future," with speakers including Mr. Ban, Mr. Brown and World Bank President Mr. Jim Kim, among others.
The Symposium will focus on how to solve the global learning crisis of 57 million children out-of-school and how to prepare young people for the 21st century marketplace so they have the knowledge and skills they need to secure decent jobs and lead productive lives.
