Director-General in Pakistan to launch Malala Fund for girls right to education

Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, will pay an official visit to Pakistan on 6 and 7 February, where she will highlight the importance of girls’ education, youth civic engagement, heritage protection and scientific cooperation.

During the visit, Mrs Bokova will participate in a national forum on girls’ education with the Minister of Education and sign a funds-in-trust agreement for the Malala Fund.

She will exchange with students at the National University for Science and Technology, and visit the Pakistan Meteorological Department with which UNESCO cooperates on strengthening flood warning and management capacity. Mrs Bokova will meet the highest authorities in the country and visit the Taxila World Heritage site.
