UNITED NATIONS GIRLS EDUCATION INITIATIVE

Three years ago, Camfed launched an innovative program to empower young women entrepreneurs in Zambia, in partnership with the 10,000 Women initiative and the University of Cambridge. The students’ inspiring journey in the Young Women’s Leadership and Enterprise Program is captured in the documentary film, The Entrepreneurs, produced by Camfed in collaboration with See Change Films.

The Entrepreneurs premieres online today on independent broadcaster Link TV’s ViewChange project, a multimedia website that brings together powerful videos highlighting progress in global development, and on Camfed’s website. The documentary will make its broadcast premiere this Friday, August 19, at 7pm EST, with repeat broadcasts through August 24. Click here to see air dates and times.

The Entrepreneurs profiles Florence, Esnart, Ng’andwe and Precious as they embark on five months of intensive training to prepare them to launch their own enterprises. They learn to conduct market research, to pitch business plans, to manage finances. Like all the young women in the course, they come from backgrounds of extreme rural poverty. Many are struggling with the loss of one or both of their parents. But with courage and determination these young women defy the odds and establish their own successful businesses, proving that anything is possible.
