20 Years Jomtien: Education for All, 22-24 March 2011, Jomtien, Thailand
The meeting is co-organized by UNESCO and the Kingdom of Thailand, with the latter also serving as host. The 2011 HLG meeting will be based on new statistics and research findings from the 2011 Global Monitoring Report (to be launched on 1 March in New York), the UNESCO Institute for Statistics data and regional reports on EFA progress from 1990-2010. Participants will also revisit the original Jomtien vision of meeting basic learning needs, as well as review progress towards the six EFA goals adopted in Dakar in 2000.
The Dakar goals brought a sharper focus to the EFA movement and their adoption was followed by significant progress. However, many countries are still struggling to meet the 2015 deadline for achieving them. For this reason, the HLG is expected to identify strategic and operational initiatives to address remaining challenges. Countries will be urged to revive political commitment to EFA and scale up efforts to tackle key education issues between now and 2015.
The Eleventh Meeting of the Working Group on EFA took place on 2-3 February 2011 at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris. The outcomes of this meeting serves to guide and inform the direction of the 10th Meeting of the High Level Group on EFA.
