Empowering Adolescent Girls through Education

The global community is currently engaged in critical discussions on meeting the Education for All (EFA) goals and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015 along with shaping the post-2015 development agenda. This paper argues that the international community should shift to a more transformative approach to girls’ rights and gender equity in order to overcome the structural barriers to girls’ education. The approach set forth here fosters the empowerment of girls and women to tackle the existing gender inequities in education as we move towards 2015 and beyond.
