UNESCO: Education at the 7th World Social Forum
January 2007 - UNESCO’s Education Sector is co-organizing three workshops at the World Social Forum (Nairobi, Kenya, 20 -25 January). The workshops, jointly organized with partner NGOs and the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, will address literacy, girls’ education and civil society’s influence on education.
The workshops:
- Innovation in literacy: Approaches and practices, registered by the International Council for Adult Education.
- Time for Action on Girls’ Education: Empowering to reduce vulnerabilities to HIV, registered by Education International.
- Strategies for Strengthening Civil Society’s Capacity to Engage Governments on Education Policy, registered by the Asian South Pacific Bureau of Adult Education.
UNESCO will also have a stand at the Forum, featuring education publications from UNESCO and its partners in the Collective Consultation of NGOs on Education for All. UNESCO’s Social and Human Sciences Sector will organize a parallel event with the Kenyan government to bring NGOs together with ministers and academics at the interregional level.
