This bulletin reviews 58 randomized evaluations from 28 low- and middle-income countries in Africa, Asia,
and Latin America that tested programs designed to increase school enrollment and attendance from preschool
through secondary school. Some programs had effects beyond participation in schools, such as increasing test scores, improving nutritional status, or transferring income to the poor. However, this bulletin focuses only on how effectively programs improved enrollment and attendance.
