In recent years, the participation of children and youth in development activities has gained increased attention. One of the central tenets of the INEE Minimum Standards on Education in Emergencies, Chronic Crises, and Early Reconstruction is community participation. This includes working with the children and youth within the communities in question. UNICEF has developed a useful resource guide on Child and Youth Participation which includes an extensive listing of publications and organizations related to children's participation in education, HIV prevention, health, hygiene and sanitation promotion, environmental protection, urban planning, emergency response and preparedness, and the protection of children and adolescents from exploitation, violence and abuse.
