The UNGEI Technical Consultation on Girls' Education and Female Adult Literacy will be held at the Beijing Hotel, Building E, First Floor - Hall B & C in Beijing , China from 26-27 November 2005.  Beijing Hotel is a five-star hotel, established in 1900 and recently renovated. It is adjacent to the imperial Forbidden City and only a five-minute walk from Tia n 'anmen Square in the centre of Beijing . The Beijing Hotel is also near the Wangfujing Commercial center and other attractions.

Entry Formalities for China


Upon confirmation of participation in the Meeting, a formal letter of invitation from the Chinese authorities will be issued to the participant. All participants entering China must be in possession of a valid passport and an entry visa. Participants are advised to make inquiries in their country of residence. Participants residing in a country where China does not have a resident Diplomatic Mission are advised to obtain entry visas from one of the neighboring Missions closest to their country of residence.

Taxi from Beijing International Airport to the meeting hotel should cost no more than 100 Chinese Yuan (approx. US$12.40) including airport highway toll fee. Travel time should be around one hour, depending on the traffic condition. Apart from the hotel porters who may expect a small tip (RMB10 per luggage), tipping is NOT expected anywhere else, for taxis, when taking meals at restaurants, etc.



Currency Exchange


The current UN Exchange Rate is Renminbi (RMB) 8.07 to US$1.00 and the commercial bank rate is similar but is subject to daily changes. Not all ATMs accept international cards. Only those carrying the VISA, Mastercard, Cirrus and other International Card signs will accept international cards. There are some ATMs available in the Wangfujing area at the Bank of China and at the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC). Currency may also be exchanged at the hotel cashier at quite reasonable rates, similar to those available from banks.
