WASH in Schools Empowers Girls' Education, 2nd Annual MHM Conference
WASH in Schools fosters social inclusion and individual self-respect. By offering an alternative to the stigma and marginalization associated with hygiene issues, it empowers all students – and especially encourages girls and female teachers. There are growing efforts around the world to address adolescent girls’ menstrual hygiene management (MHM) needs through WinS programming.
Additional research is needed to understand the specific MHM-related requirements of girls going to school in different social, cultural, and economic contexts; what the global and national priority MHM-related intervention in schools should be; what the most effective and efficient MHM approaches are; and how to best monitor their implementation, use and outcomes. The second virtual MHM in WASH in Schools conference will provide an opportunity to share MHM lessons with the extensive WinS community of practitioners, researchers and policy makers around the world. The conference presentation and discussion will focus this year on the tools and instruments being utilized to explore the MHM barriers facing girls, and to measure and evaluate interventions being trialed or implemented in various country contexts. There has been much research, programming and policy work conducted over the last year since the inaugural MHM in WinS conference.
The second conference will enable the showcasing of these findings, and continue to move forward the global effort to fill existing gaps in knowledge and advocacy.
This year’s meeting will take place on Thursday 21st November 2013 at 8am and will be accessed via WebEx.
Participants are asked to register by 7th November, by emailing email@example.com. Please include your name and organization in the email.
Two practice WebEx sessions will be held with virtual participants who are new to the WebEx system. These sessions will be held on Wednesday, 13st November at 9am (NY time) and Thursday, 14th November at 9am (NY time). During registration, participants are asked to indicate the session they will attend.
